HEAT ONE ~ Sunday 15th March 2009
at THE EDGE OF THE WEDGE, SOUTHSEA
(Front of The Wedgewood Rooms, Albert Road)
JOE DANIELS, studying at Portmouth Uni, has already got a string of gigs under his young belt, including swinging his nipple tassles at top local burlesque night, HMS Pin Up. His act draws upon his "own insecurities and sexuality and so on." And on.
+++ +++ +++ +++
PAUL JACKSON comes from just up the road in a city with a first division football team...but don't hold that against him! He has done a handful of gigs where his more mainstream style has be warmly received. Not offensive, he says, but definetly with some interesting and abstract off the wall material based on thoughts and situations.
+++ +++ +++ +++
Floppy haired Londoner JOEL DOMMETT has already started making a name for himself reaching the Comedy Store's King Gong in January with his brilliant and self-deprecating nooddlings. He is NOT Simon Amstell.
+++ +++ +++ +++
Basingstoke's BEN MORGAN is gigging like a lunatic this year, honing his acidic puns and topical wit but confessing to some "mildly offensive stuff". Well, we'll be the judge of that young fella, Black Cat is used to material not fit for your Maiden Aunt!
+++ +++ +++ +++
Living and working at a local hospital AARON ROSE is an odd one...but in a good way! Incisive, acerbic, witty and in turn obtuse, this self-confesed bohemian malcontent...
+++ +++ +++ +++
LUKE McQUEEN moved to London in 2006 and is an energetic and charming act, with some challenging questions and great observational material always told with a playful sense of fun.
+++ +++ +++ +++
Portsmouth's JOE WELLS is the author of 'Touch and Go Joe' a book about A.D.D. and has been dipping his toe into the world of stand up for some time. Joe gains inspiration from the innate contradictions in Homophobia, Misogyny and racism to create his own surreal and satirical world.
+++ +++ +++ +++
Local girl KIRSTY MITCHELL entered last year's Gong Show and had such a great time she's coming back for more. Whilst attempting to channel her angst and insecurities she will definetly be avoiding the clichéd pitfalls of many female contemporaries. Anyone who knows her will be familiar with her bizarre slant on the world...bring it on, girlfriend!
+++ +++ +++ +++
Flying all the way over from Canada especially for the Gong Show, via a bedsit in South London, PAT BURTSCHER is a ranting Canadian social commentator with more than a little of the acid casualty about him. Just stay off the brown acid, Pat, and you should be in for a good night!"

COMPÉRE
RICHARD BROPHY
Richard Brophy is a charming stand-up comedian and compére from Perth, Western Australia. His friendly presence and unique style of dry, surreal humour has seen him rise quickly up the ranks of the UK comedy circuit.
Brophy's been a strong contender in several national comedy competitions and a presenter and panellist of topical comedy show This Week on Earth... Brophy also formed one third of International Stand-Up , a sell-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe 2007
Drawing on his experiences from a dusty childhood, a reckless adolescence, and world travels, Brophy finds an original strand of insight and humour that seldom fails to amuse and entertain.
"...the real star of the show was Richard Brophy, whose dry wit and painfully funny routine went down a storm. If comedy hasn't been Brophy's full time occupation to date, it almost certainly will be."
THREE WEEKS [Edinburgh Festival]
"...a very laid-back style and some very funny and surreal comedy... he's well worth seeing."
