Launched in early 2007 the Black Cat Comedy Club has already played host to some of the brightest, sharpest and sexiest talent on the comedy circuit today in a small intimate venue on England's sunny south coast.

The FIRST Sunday of every month see's the Black Cat hosting it's legendary Comedy Club at THE FAT FOX (junction of Albert Road & Victoria Road South).
The heats for the PORTSMOUTH GONG SHOW™ will be held at THE EDGE OF THE WEDGE in Albert Road (Wedgewood Rooms) starting on SUNDAY 15th MARCH 2009.

Black Cat Comedy Club in association with the World Famous Gong Show are hosting the return of the PORTSMOUTH GONG SHOW™ ... and it's BIGGER and BETTER in 2009.
Heats will run from March with nine comedians battling it out for £100 cash prize and the chance of reaching the KING GONG GRAND FINAL™ in the autumn, as well as a prestigious gig at a future Black Cat Comedy Club.

The format is three series of three acts, hosted by professional compére. You get a maximum of six minutes to impress the audience. Three "red cards" will be amongst the audience, and after a two-minute "Grace Period" if all red cards are held you are off. If you last the five minutes you go through to the public vote.
At least one act from each section must be allowed to go through for the public vote at the end...when the first Portsmouth Gong Show™ winner of 2009 will be announced and issued with the cheapest trophy we can get from a local engravers/cobblers (may involve darts/snooker) and a bottle of inexpensive champaigne. Oh, and a hundred knicker.
The Winner and Runner-Up from each heat will go through to the KING GONG GRAND FINAL™ with the chance of winning £250!!! If you do not make it through you may enter a later heat, subject to availability.
Basically we've been inundated with requests for open spots which we can't feasibly hope to host, so we are trying this to find the acts we want to bring back.
If you know other new acts local to you and are prepared to drive down together we will offer some fiscal renumeration, inline with Black Cat's ethical green policy of trying to save our dying planet from global capitalism.
